Summit Area Real Estate continues to take advantage of improvements in our area ski resorts, giving an even larger appeal to those looking for real estate in and around the areas of Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Keystone, and A-Basin.
Breckenridge, Colorado leads the pack with improvements for this year and has the honor of being the ONLY Colorado resort that is increasing in size. Welcome the long awaited Peak 6 to Breckenridge, Colorado, the largest terrain increase in the US in the past decade. Peak 6 will add two new lifts and access over 400 acres of terrain for beginner and intermediate skiing. Additionally, approximately 143 acres of hike terrain will be added.
Arapahoe Basin continues to make a mark in the Colorado Resort improvements category. Work continues on the proposed expansion into the back country area adjacent to the resort known as the Beavers. For this season, the main lodge at the base of the mountain is also seeing a huge face lift. The 6th Alley Bar & Grill is a $1 million dollar remodel and is expected to be completed in time for the season. Of course, one of the most notable honors is first chair, which A-Basis achieved when they opened up first in the state on October 15, 2013. Congratulations, A-Basin!
Copper Mountain has joined the fun as well, spending $7 million for the 2013-2014 season. They have replaced the Storm King T-bar and added a new West Ridge Platter surface lift, allowing access to the upper portions of the ski area. Also new this season, Copper adds Sherpa, a hands free app that delivers trail tips, directions and local insights via headphones.
Vail resorts currently operates Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone and Arapahoe Basin resorts in Colorado. Vail reports they have budgeted $130 - $140 million dollars across 9 resorts. Vail, the flagship resort, will be replacing the Mountaintop Express chair with a 6 person lift. Improvements are also planned for the Epic-Mix, which will include online pins and awards for ski school students.
